What You Need to Know About the Space Junk Study
The latest “space junk” study suggests that many of our space debris could actually be from a space junk landing.
This latest research was conducted by a group of Canadian scientists. The Space Junk Study group has been making news for their high level of expertise. They recently made the news in Australia, where they were invited to speak at a Royal Society of the Arts conference.
It seems that this latest research will shed more light on the final debris of the Space Shuttle. Many people are already very knowledgeable about the Space Shuttle’s debris. Most folks remember the pieces that have become lost during re-entry. Some of this debris, although made of metal, is still able to fly away into space. The problem is that most pieces of space junk are not made of metal but plastic.
So, why is it that many space debris pieces are made of plastic?
The research group, which makes a living out of studying space junk, suggests that the reason is that plastics are much lighter than metal. This fact, they say, could explain why space junk is often launched into space and left there. Even though the booster jet is eventually jettisoned off into the Earth’s atmosphere, the plastic is unlikely to burn up in the process…
