I t seems that the US may finally get their wish, there had been reportedly ideas leaning towards approval of a space rock smashing exercise. The latest news revolves around a piece of technology that would enable astronauts to land a small craft onto an asteroid and steer it out-of-the-way.

Although NASA had said it has no plans to actually do this in reality, they have had talks with companies in California working on ways to use space rock material for construction. If this technology can be perfected, it would be the first step to taking humans to space. The engineers and technicians would use the space rock as a platform to build another structure, perhaps a habitat or even a space station. Although there are some that say this plan will not work, others think differently.

They argue that if this idea was ever made it would be a good way to deflect asteroid collisions.

In April, NASA astronaut Jim Burke discussed this idea with scientists from Cornell University. He said that he does not know if it is going to work, but he thinks it is a good way to divert an asteroid which is…
